PaperCut FollowMe Printing Issues

Resolution:

Issues with settings in another system that impacted printing were identified and resolved Friday. All PaperCut FollowMe MFDs were back online and operating normally late Friday. Print jobs sent that did not release from a unit were cleared from the print queue and will need to be re-printed if needed. Jobs cleared were not charged. If a non-FollowMe network printer still appears to not print, power the printer off for a minute and then turn it back on to restore its network connection. Original message:

An issue that is imapcting FollowMe printing and non-FollowMe printing was identified this morning that may continue to impact the release of print jobs for a short period of time. You may be able to login to a FollowMe MFD, see your jobs listed, and then release them. However, the MFD itself may not print. This does not seem to be a permanent issue. If the FollowMe MFD is powered off for a minute and then powered back on, the issue appears to resolve. Anything that was already attempted to be printed at that FollowMe MFD while in this affected state may still release when restarted. LTS is investigating the issue more and may have identified the problem. LTS will determine steps to prevent any future issues. Also, a reminder that with recent changes to the FollowMe MFD configuration, there are extended periods of time between the print of individual jobs if you are accustomed to using the Print All option.

Transact System Maintenance

Transact system maintenance is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 12th. The anticipated service window is 3PM to 5PM.

Services that depend on this resource will be impacted for the duration of this needed maintenance.

Impacted Services:
Credit cards will not work at campus dining locations, Hilltop, Housing front desks and the T-Store.
Areas where cards/mobile are used for ID verification will need to be manually entered.

Door access and PaperCut print services will continue to work during this maintenance window.

PaperCut FollowMe Printing Still Operational

During the Transact maintenance period a workaround has been put in place to allow PaperCut FollowMe printing to still be functional while the Transact service is down. This was just tested and appears to be working. If you encounter any issues attempting to print while Transact is down, please contact the LTS Help Desk by calling 715.836.5711 or emailing helpdesk@uwec.edu with your details.

Transact Maintenance

A Transact system upgrade is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, January 10th. The anticipated service window is 9AM to 3PM.

Services that depend on this resource will be impacted for the duration of this upgrade.

unplanned wireless outage

Due to a configuration issue, portions of the UWEC wireless network were unavailable from 8p on 11/3 until 12p on 11/4. The configuration issue has been resolved and the UWEC wireless network is fully functional again.

iClicker Polling Freezing

Resolution:

iClicker published a fixed version which was deployed across campus at about 4:15pm today (10/25/2023). If the lab computer was not currently running iClicker it was updated to the fixed version. The updated iClicker was also deployed to Software Center for installation on office computers (see instructions here https://www.uwec.edu/kb/article/installing-software-on-office-computers/ if needed)

On 10/19/2023 a routine monthly Windows update went out to all computers on campus. This update has caused an issue with iClicker Polling no longer working on campus computers.

LTS is aware of the issue and are investigating all possible solutions and workarounds to fix the issue. We are in contact with iClicker (who are aware of the issue and are working towards a solution themselves).

Message from iClicker about this issue:

We apologize for the issues you have been facing with iClicker. The past 2 weeks we have seen an uptick in instructors reporting issues using Windows 11, due to the forced update by Windows 11. Our teams have reached out to Windows to seek a response, as the issue stems from the update itself.

The Windows team confirmed for us that this is a bug in their capture service from the recent update and advised us on how we can mitigate it. They intend to fix it in an upcoming release, and we are awaiting details on the timing and whether it will also be fixed in already released versions.

As we know the profound effect this can have on the classroom experience, we are pursuing our own fix from the direction they've provided. This will be scheduled for an immediate hotfix that would require a new download for affected instructors. Our Product team is already working on fixing and verifying the new build.
